Folder layout of the zip file

The theme zip must contain a few required files and only the allowed folders. This page shows where each file goes.

A theme is a zip file. The system requires these files:

layout/
  theme.liquid
templates/
  index.json
config/
  settings_schema.json
  settings_data.json

These folders are accepted: assets, blocks, config, layout, locales, sections, snippets and templates.

If all files are inside one top-level folder, the zip is still accepted.

Saved setting values

The file with the saved setting values is in the config folder. Its name is in the list above.

templates

The templates folder holds the page layouts. The product page file starts with product. The category page file starts with collection.

sections

The sections folder holds the page sections. They are explained on the next page.
